Dr Darren Marchant is an Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising exclusively in conditions of the hand and upper limb. This includes all aspects of the assessment and management of issues affecting the shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand- including neurovascular conditions, microsurgery and reconstructive surgery. Dr Marchant is a partner in The Brisbane Hand and Upper Limb Clinic, based out of Brisbane Private Hospital. He also runs clinics through Brisbane Sports and Exercise Medicine Specialists, at Hawthorne, and Montserrat Day Hospital, at North Lakes.
Dr Marchant is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and the Australian Orthopaedic Association. He is a member of the Australian Hand Surgery Society, The Queensland Hand Surgery Society and the Queensland Shoulder Surgery Society. Dr Marchant’s Fellowship training in Orthopaedic Surgery was completed in Queensland in 2006. Following this Dr Marchant undertook extensive subspecialised fellowship training in Upper Limb Surgery. The first of these appointments were at the University of Texas Health Science Centre in San Antonio, under the direction of Professor Charles Rockwood and Professor Michael Wirth. The focus of this twelve month appointment was all aspects of shoulder surgery including, arthroplasty, arthroscopic surgery, reconstructive procedures and shoulder trauma management.
Following this Dr Marchant completed a further year of subspecialty experience at The Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney. This appointment was focused on further development in shoulder surgery as well as subspecialised training in surgery involving the elbow, hand and wrist including extensive micro-surgical and reconstructive surgical experience. Since returning to Brisbane in 2008, Dr Marchant has established a busy practice incorporating all aspects of the management of upper limb conditions. This includes elective, semi- elective and traumatic conditions of the hand and upper limb. In addition to these aspects of the practice, Dr Marchant has an interest in the assessment and management of sporting injuries and has a continuing involvement with many elite sporting programs.
