Dr. Howard Cho is a highly qualified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon, dedicated to delivering expert care across the full scope of oral and facial surgery. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons (FRACDS) and currently serves as a Consultant Surgeon at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, where he also contributes to the training of future specialists.
Training:
Dr. Cho began his medical journey in New Zealand, earning his Bachelor of Dental Surgery with distinction from the University of Otago. He later completed his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at the University of Queensland, solidifying his dual qualifications in both dentistry and medicine.
His early career as a house surgeon at Waikato Hospital exposed him to a wide range of complex cases involving craniofacial deformities, oral pathology, and facial trauma—experiences that inspired his pursuit of specialist training. Dr. Cho trained as an oral and maxillofacial registrar in Victoria, before completing his advanced surgical training in Queensland, including placements at Townsville, Princess Alexandra, and Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospitals.
To further refine his expertise, Dr. Cho undertook a clinical fellowship at Dalhousie University in Canada, focusing on corrective jaw surgery (orthognathic surgery) and surgical treatment for obstructive sleep apnoea. He also has a strong interest in 3D computer-assisted surgical planning, enhancing precision and outcomes in complex procedures.
Dr. Cho’s research background includes a master’s degree and competitive scholarship for his work on improving patient comfort following wisdom teeth removal.
Fluent in Cantonese and conversant in Mandarin, Dr. Cho provides culturally sensitive care to a diverse patient population. Known for his meticulous approach and compassionate manner, he ensures each patient receives personalised treatment tailored to their needs.
