Dr Richard Cheng

Dr Richard Cheng is an Australian trained gastroenterologist and the Director of Gastroenterology at Redcliffe Hospital in Brisbane. Dr Cheng graduated from the University of Melbourne and was awarded the Fellowship of the FRACP in 2014. His further studies included a Bachelor of Medical Science through the Austin Hospital Liver Transplant Unit, where he trained in the management of chronic liver disease and its complications.

Dr Cheng’s Special interests include:

Dr Richard Cheng also completed a clinical fellowship in inflammatory bowel disease at Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, providing specialist consultation and multidisciplinary care in gastroenterological diseases to patients in both Brisbane and regional Queensland.

Rapid Access Endoscopy

Dr Cheng advocates for rapid access to high-quality gastroenterology and endoscopy care for Queensland patients and sits on the steering committee for the State-wide Clinical Network for Gastroenterology. He supports rapid access endoscopy pathways, so eligible patients can fast-track their procedure without unnecessary delays. This efficient model of care promotes earlier diagnosis and is aligned with Australia’s National Bowel Cancer Screening Program, prioritising timely investigation of positive FOBT results.

He is involved in GP education, awareness campaigns and has presented at multiple local and international conferences. He is committed to developing holistic and multidisciplinary gastroenterological care for patients. He enjoys teaching and mentoring junior medical staff in his daily work.

Dr Cheng was recognised at the Metro North Australia Day Achievement Awards 2021 for his achievements in driving improvements in Gastroenterology by diligently improving the service, spending quality time with patients and delivering compassionate care.

Dr Madhavi Kasi graduated from the NTR University Andhra Pradesh, India in 2004. She commenced practising in the U.K and completed her Gastroenterology training at the Nottingham University Hospital, U.K. Dr Kasi then undertook a Hepatology and Liver transplant Fellowship from the University of Cambridge, U.K. She also holds Membership from the Royal College of Physicians, U.K and the Royal Australian College of Physicians.

Before moving to Australia Dr Kasi practised as a Consultant in the Royal Derby Hospital and started working as a Fellow in the Gold Coast University Hospital. Dr Kasi is currently practising as a consultant in Gastroenterology and Hepatology in The Prince Charles Hospital, Chermside and Brisbane where she trains medical and Gastroenterology trainees.

Dr Kasi has a special interest in:

  • All liver conditions: NAFLD/NASH, Viral hepatitis, Alcohol-related liver disease, Autoimmune liver disease and complex liver diseases- Presented at various national and international meetings

Dr Moattar completed his Medical Degree with Distinction in 2004 and since then, he has worked in various hospitals both in the United Kingdom and Queensland. In 2016, he completed his Gastroenterology & Hepatology Fellowship after being trained at the Mater Adult Hospital, The Prince Charles Hospital, Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and Townsville Hospital.

After completing his general Gastroenterology Fellowship, Dr Moattar worked as an Inflammatory Bowel Disease Fellow at the foremost IBD Centre – the Fiona Stanley Hospital, in Perth, Western Australia. This helped to expand his experience and skill in managing complex patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease. He uses his clinical and interpersonal skills to optimise patients’ care and quality of life in close collaboration with IBD nurses, dieticians, colorectal surgeons, clinical psychologists, and radiologists.

Dr Moattar enjoys keeping abreast of the latest developments and research in Gastroenterology. In addition to teaching students and junior doctors in small tutorials and lecturing in grand rounds and departmental meetings, he actively participates in quality assurance projects and audits, publishing or presenting the results of these projects in national and international meetings.

Dr Moattar personally monitors all IBD patients who commence immunosuppressants to ensure the maximum safety and efficacy of these medications.

Dr Peerbaccus consults and performs Rapid Access Endoscopy procedures at North Lakes Day Hospital, in addition to his already established private practice in the Moreton Bay Region.

Dr Peerbaccus is a dual trained Gastroenterologist and Internal Medicine Specialist. He graduated from the University of Cape Town-South Africa in 2005. Dr Peerbaccus relocated to New Zealand in 2007 where he completed his advanced training in Auckland and was awarded his Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Physicians (FRACP) in 2018.

He has received extensive training in General Gastroenterology, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Liver Diseases, Motility Disorders and Functional Disorders. Dr Yanez Peerbaccus

Dr. Shaik is a staff specialist and the Clinical Lead for Hepatology at Redcliffe Hospital, Brisbane. He underwent his physician training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology in New Zealand and obtained his Fellowship from the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2017. He has presented and received awards at national gastroenterology conferences.

Dr Shaik has a special interest in Hepatology. He was previously a clinical research fellow and has been co-investigator in hepatitis C and hepatitis B trials. In 2018, he completed a clinical fellowship in Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, where he was involved in hepatology research programs, Fibroscan clinics, and palliative liver clinic – delivering best practice care to a broad demographic range of patients.

Dr Shaik is passionate about his career and takes every opportunity to enhance his knowledge –  keeping up to date with new developments, and attending both local and international conferences in the field of Gastroenterology and Hepatology.

Dr Shrivastava has more than 20 years’ experience in Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology with a special interest in:

Qualifications
Dr Shrivastava obtained his MD in Internal Medicine in 2001, before going on to complete his Doctorate of Medicine in Gastroenterology from 2002 to 2005. He completed his Fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2021.

Dr Shrivastava has accumulated two decades of experience in interventional gastroenterology in India and the United Arab Emirates giving him broad experience in managing complex patients which is further supported by his experience in Hepatology, Inflammatory Bowel Disease and the management of Functional Bowel Disorders. A career highlight, Dr Shrivastava was previously Director of Endoscopic Services at the JCI-accredited hospital in Hyderabad, South India. He excels in prognostication and managing cases where patients can derive the maximum benefit.

Awards and publications
In addition to having his research article on Chronic Radiation Proctitis management published in the Journal of Tropical Medicine, Dr Shrivastava has received several awards. His research paper on Hepatobiliary intervention was adjudged the best National Paper at the Indian Society of Gastroenterology National Conference in 2003. Dr Shrivastava was also awarded the Best Outgoing University Student in Gastroenterology in 2005.

Mentoring
Dr Shrivastava is heavily involved in teaching and mentoring Medical Registrars and Advanced Trainees to manage complex patients. He is also a Senior Lecturer at the University of Queensland, where he teaches undergraduate medical students.

Outside of work, Dr Shrivastava is a swimmer and long-distance runner, and greatly enjoys listening to classical Indian music.

Dr Zad completed his medical training in 2002 at the Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences in Iran. He continued his basic Physician training in New South Wales and completed his Gastroenterology advanced traineeship in Queensland and New South Wales.

He was awarded his Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Physicians in 2018 and is accredited with the Gastroenterology Society of Australia (GESA) for gastroscopy and colonoscopy. He is currently appointed as a consultant Gastroenterologist at Caboolture Hospital and STAR Herston.

Dr Zad consults on a broad range of gastroenterological conditions, including Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Motility disorder, Liver Disease, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Coeliac Disease and Bowel Cancer Screening.
