Dr. Harrison Bennett is a highly accomplished ophthalmologist with subspecialty expertise in cataract and vitreoretinal surgery.
Training:
Graduating with first-class honours in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Queensland, Dr. Bennett went on to complete his ophthalmology training in Queensland and earned his Fellowship with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (FRANZCO). He further distinguished himself internationally by completing a Vitreoretinal Fellowship at the University of British Columbia in Canada, and holds a rare Diploma in Retina Surgery from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
Dr. Bennett has performed thousands of surgeries, specialising in complex cataract procedures, macular surgery, and laser treatments for retinal conditions. His commitment to excellence has earned him the International Ophthalmologist Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and he is an active member of both the American Society of Retina Specialists and the Australian and New Zealand Society of Retinal Specialists.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Bennett serves as a Consultant Vitreoretinal Surgeon with Queensland Health, where he also supervises surgical training for ophthalmology registrars. He regularly lectures at national and international conferences and has completed clinical exams with the International Council of Ophthalmology.

Dr Shyalle Kahawita is a consultant eye surgeon and physician with a subspecialisation in glaucoma. She studied at the University of Adelaide, where she received the David Crompton Ophthalmology prize in medical school. She also completed a Master of Medicine (Ophthalmic Science) at the University of Sydney.
Dr Kahawita has completed her specialist ophthalmology training in various locations across Australia, including South Australia, Alice Springs, and Brisbane. She underwent further training and completed her Glaucoma Fellowship at the prestigious Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, which was supported by the RANZCO Topham Scholarship.
Dr Kahawita currently holds a public appointment as a Consultant Ophthalmologist at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and Surgical, Treatment and Rehabilitation Service (STARS). Additionally, she is involved in teaching and training medical students and ophthalmology registrars as a Lecturer at the University of Queensland. Previously, her clinical teaching excellence was recognised by Professor Derek Frewin AO Citation from the University of Adelaide.
Dr Kahawita is committed to advancing the field of ophthalmology and has published extensively in several ophthalmology journals. She is a volunteer surgeon in Papua New Guinea.
Her clinical interests include glaucoma (management, laser and surgery), minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS), complex cataract surgery, manual small incision cataract surgery (MSICS), pterygium surgery, and comprehensive adult ophthalmology, including age-related macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease and retinal vein occlusion management, injections and laser.

Dr Nirosha Paramanathan is a comprehensively trained and highly effectual Ophthalmologist. Technical expertise, thoroughness, kindness, and an instinctive commitment to holistic care, are demonstrated core values in her clinical practise.
Dr Paramanathan studied both undergraduate medicine and post-graduate master’s degrees, at the University of New South Wales. She then completed five years of Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmology accredited training, at Prince of Wales, Sydney Children’s, and Sydney Eye Hospitals. Having acquired extensive training in both adult and paediatric general ophthalmology, Dr Paramanathan went on to undertake a three-year mentorship with internationally renowned Strabismologist, Dr Ross Fitzsimons, to advance her appreciation of the science and art, of strabismus (squint). She has now returned home to Brisbane, joining KindSIGHT and Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, as a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon.
Dr Paramanathan expertly manages a wide range of presentations: adult cataract, strabismus, glaucoma, pterygium and paediatric strabismus, amblyopia (lazy eye) and tear-duct obstruction.
The provision of quality, equitable eye health care to all is something Dr Paramanathan feels strongly about. She has visited Myanmar several times with the Myanmar Eye Care Program, to provide both ophthalmic care to patients and training to local eye care professionals. She has done the same in Cuzco, Peru with the Volunteer Visions Program. Closer to home, Dr Paramanathan has previously provided a fly-in-fly-out ophthalmic service to Dubbo and surrounding regional New South Wales.
When not practising ophthalmology or spending time with family, Dr Paramanathan is a writer and teacher. She is the author of the acclaimed PINKY PONKY Magic series of children’s books. She is inspired by nature and is a keen hiker, having had the most amazing adventure completing the Everest Base Camp trek in 2019.

Dr Reader studied medicine at Flinders University of South Australia graduating in 1985. After a number of years as a RAAF medical officer, he completed training as a commercial pilot and worked in general aviation. Following this, he undertook a post graduate fellowship in aviation medicine in which he has an ongoing interest. He completed his ophthalmology training at Sydney Eye Hospital and in Plymouth, UK. Upon returning from overseas Dr Reader worked as a general ophthalmologist in Sydney before relocating to Queensland. Dr Reader is a member of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO) and the Australian Society of Aerospace Medicine.
Dr Reader regularly attends both local and overseas ophthalmic meetings, as well as giving regular clinical updates to Optometrists and General Practitioners.

Dr Smith was a graduate of the University of Queensland Medical School in 1997 and spent his residency training in Northern Queensland and Brisbane. He has achieved a Masters in Science research degree in Anatomy at Trinity College in Dublin for which he received a Trinity College Post-Graduate Award. He completed his advanced training in Ophthalmology in Queensland in 2007. Following this he had further fellowship training in Oculoplastic surgery in the UK at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge University Hospital and at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London.
Dr Smith is a member of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO) and the Australasian Society of Cataracts and Refractive Surgeons (AUSCRS). He regularly attends and has presented at national and international conferences. Dr Smith was a Medical Officer at the Princess Alexandra Hospital 2009-2016. He has been actively involved in the teaching of registrars and medical students and was awarded a RANZCO Trainer of Excellence in 2010.
